Solo Exhibition

This body of work has been created for the Final Major Project of my Masters degree which began in 2022, reflecting the perimeters of land, sea and sky. It explores human responses to the natural, coastal places, spaces and objects particular to my interactions with the Jurassic coast. Rather than aiming to create meticulous studies of landscape, the work involves the study of snapshots of the fragmented memories and emotional reflexes we experience when encountering such places. As the camera’s lens captures the moment in time, the human senses respond similarly; tracking and recording ephemeral images rather than creating coherent, linear narratives. Through various visits to the coast as well as studio work this is an exploration of the lack of reality within the concept of the landscape, rather than an attempt to present a singular viewpoint. Taking in the area of coast from Lyme Regis to West Bay in Dorset, a series of paintings, objects and textiles allow others to experience and respond to these snapshots of the more-than-human world. By exhibiting the work at The Salt House in West Bay I hope to make a direct connection to the Jurassic coast; through the sensual experiences of sight, sound and the physicality of the surrounding harbour and the geographical context of Dorset.
